Home Support Services 

Home support services, also known as the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Support at Home (SAH) are designed to provide entry-level support for older individuals, enabling them to maintain independence and live comfortably in their own homes and communities. Service providers collaborate with participants to offer assistance tailored to their needs, which mostly include daily tasks, home modifications, transportation, social support, and medical care. Additionally, the home support services offer respite services to provide caregivers with much-needed breaks. 

The core objectives of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme include:  

  • Supporting individuals to live life on their own terms. 
  • Working with participants rather than performing tasks on their behalf. 
  • Providing a moderate level of assistance tailored to individuals' unique needs. 
  • Making a significant impact on the lives of many within the community. 

Most people in the home support program usually need just one or two services to help them stay independent. This shows that the commonwealth home support programme aims to give focused and helpful support where it’s most necessary.

Wondering if home support services are right for you? Take this quick check to see if you meet the basic requirements and to determine if you qualify for an assessment. 

  • We assess the level of assistance you require for everyday tasks.
  • You need to meet the age criteria. Typically, this means being 65 years or older, or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals.

If you are aged 50 or older, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and are facing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or have a low income, you may also qualify for our home made support.
